Heat pump or gas furnace — what's better in Upstate SC?
For most Upstate homes, a heat pump works well — it cools in summer and handles our mild winters efficiently. If you already have gas service or want backup heat for the occasional hard cold snap, a gas furnace or hybrid (dual-fuel) system might be a better fit. We'll explain the trade-offs and let you decide.
Why is one room always hotter or colder than the rest of the house?
Almost always a ductwork issue, not the AC itself — undersized supply runs, leaky returns, or unbalanced dampers. Sometimes it's a register that's been blocked by furniture or closed off. We can take a look and tell you what's going on.
How long does a new system install usually take?
Most residential installs are completed in a day. Larger projects — full system replacements paired with new ductwork — can run longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline before we start, not after.
How often should I have my system tuned up?
Twice a year is the standard recommendation: a cooling tune-up in spring before peak heat, and a heating tune-up in fall before the first cold snap. Skipping seasonal maintenance is one of the most common reasons systems fail when you need them most.
Should I cover my outdoor unit in winter?
Generally no. Outdoor AC units are built to handle the weather — a full cover traps moisture and invites pests. Heat pumps must never be covered, since they run year-round. If you want, a small piece of plywood weighted on top to keep falling debris out is fine.
Should I repair my old system or replace it?
It depends on the system's age, how often it's needed work lately, and how much energy it's still costing you. A system more than about 10–15 years old that's needing frequent fixes is usually closer to replacement than repair. We'll look at yours and give you the honest answer — no pressure either way.
